Self-Care vs. Soul-Care (Engl.)
Especially among moms, you often hear about self-care and me-time. It’s said to be the key to surviving the “hard years.”
Don’t get me wrong — self-care in the sense of taking care of your body, getting enough sleep, and eating nourishing food is so important. I also love having time just for myself — to be “Mirjana” and not only “Mom.”
But here’s the thing…
Self-care and me-time can easily turn into an ego trip. They can become an idol. We start to believe it’s our right — and when we don’t get “our time,” our world feels like it’s falling apart. We need it, right?
Unpopular opinion: What we truly need first and foremost isn’t self-care or me-time. What our hearts really crave is soul-care. Our souls need to be refilled in God’s presence. We need Jesus-time.
Only when we are filled by Jesus do we have the wisdom, strength, patience, and love we need. And honestly, that’s something I’ve often neglected in the past.
Many times, I’ve spent time learning about Jesus — through sermons, podcasts, and devotionals — but not enough time with Him. Those things are wonderful, but they can’t replace our personal quiet time with God.
Through the Revive Our Hearts Bible Reading Challenge, I’ve finally started reading my Bible again — really reading it. And these first few days have already been such a beautiful blessing to my heart.
To make enough time for this Bible Challenge and to adjust to my current season of life, I’ll be taking a Church Girl Pause until December. There will still be a podcast episode in November, but no new posts on social media or my blog until then.
Thank you so much for your understanding — and thank you for being here. It truly means so much to me. Wishing you all of God’s blessings. See you in December ♡
Love,
Mirjana Joy
