This Is What Keeps You from God

One of my spiritual role models is Joni Eareckson Tada. In one of her devotionals, she writes:

For the Christian who commits his heart fully to the Lord, the devil employs a special weapon: distraction.

Can you relate? You’re right in the middle of praying, and suddenly you remember that you urgently need to hang up the laundry, schedule a doctor’s appointment, or reply to an important message. You try to make a mental note and quickly refocus on your prayer. But now you can’t even remember what you were praying about.

Maybe the same thing happens when you’re reading the Bible or listening to a sermon. We are experts at getting distracted, aren’t we? Social media also knows exactly how to grab our attention and consume our time.

Yet what our soul truly needs can only be found in the One who created it: undivided time with our heavenly Father.

Let’s make this prayer of David our own today: „Give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” (Psalm 86:11)

Love,
Mirjana Joy
