How Could I Have Been So Foolish?

I had decided to use my free time in the evenings more wisely. I wanted to go to bed earlier and focus only on the most important tasks on my phone—no unnecessary scrolling and no distractions. The first few days went quite well. I even deactivated my private Instagram account and managed to get to bed earlier.

But one evening, I made a naïve mistake.

I was watching a YouTube video (which was already the first step in the wrong direction) when suddenly an ad popped up. Usually, I never click on ads, but something about what the woman was saying piqued my curiosity enough to check it out—just for a second.

The result? I ended up in a one-hour webinar, only to discover at the very end that to apply the content, I would need to enroll in a course that cost nearly $2,000. I couldn’t believe it. I had wasted so much precious time—my sleep—for… what? I felt awful.

Do you recognize yourself in this? Maybe you’ve never watched an unnecessary webinar, but perhaps you find yourself endlessly scrolling on social media, binge-watching Netflix, or wasting time in other ways. There are so many opportunities to squander our time. And yet, time is a precious resource from God—one that we are called to steward faithfully.

The Bible instructs us to live wisely and make the most of our time (Ephesians 5:15-16). I had not been faithful with the time God had graciously given me. Perhaps you also struggle with using your time wisely.

But right at that moment—when we sadly realize we’ve failed again—God wants to meet us in His grace. He is faithful, even when we are not (2 Timothy 2:13).

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

Let’s run into the arms of Jesus and, through His strength, become faithful stewards of the resources He has entrusted to us. ♡
