What Does God Want From You?

What’s the first and most important thing that God wants from us?

That was the question the pastor’s wife asked us at a women’s meeting in my church. “That we love Him and are faithful to Him,” I said. But that was the wrong answer.

She asked the question again. Silence. We didn’t know what she was getting at. Finally, she explained that what God wants first and foremost is for us to RECEIVE. He wants us to let Him fill us. He loved us first. Only through that can we love Him in return, serve Him, and love others. But above all, He wants to give us love.

That perspective changes everything, doesn’t it? Sometimes we’re so focused on doing things, serving, following rules… but all of that happens naturally when God fills us with His love. Our actions are a RESPONSE, not the reason He loves us.

Receiving God’s love and then giving his love, dying for others, and living for others—that pretty much sums up the Christian walk, our purpose for being.
