The Holy Spirit

On Pentecost, we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit to earth. This list is not exhaustive, but it provides a glimpse into His wonderful attributes, inspired by Christian Wegert’s Pentecost sermon.

The Holy Spirit is God

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17)

Comforter, Helper, Advocate

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” (John 14:26)

He Gives Spiritual Gifts

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit… To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.” (1 Corinthians 12:4–11)

Spirit of Truth

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth…” (John 16:13)

Spirit of Power

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…” (Acts 1:8)

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

God particularly seeks those who recognize their weakness. It’s about my frailty, this fragile vessel that I am, into which God desires to pour His strength. It’s not about my power – it’s about His!

Spirit of Love

“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” (Romans 5:5)

We cannot fully comprehend God’s love, as it surpasses our understanding (Ephesians 3:17–19). However, through the Holy Spirit, this love is also present within us. It is a sacrificial love for God and for others—one that even drives out fear (1 John 4:18).

Spirit of Self-Control / Sound Mind

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Self-control is a way of life. Don’t waste your time on unnecessary things; use your time wisely instead. Set priorities. The best time manager is the Holy Spirit!

But HOW?

The resources are available, but how can we put them into action?

Live with God—let Him shape you. Don’t quench the Spirit by allowing sin to distract you; instead, stay close to His heart through prayer, Bible reading, and fellowship with other believers.

And even here, you can find rest in this truth: It’s not your own strength, but God grants you His strength 🙂
