Nobody Likes to Talk About It… (Deeper)
Too often, we underestimate just how far God had to go in Jesus to save us. We weren’t drowning people who simply needed a life preserver thrown to us. We were stone-cold dead at the bottom of the ocean. That was our spiritual condition—slaves to sin. But in His great mercy, God pulled us out. He gave His life to breathe new life into us. Jesus isn’t just a helper—He is our Savior! And He has so many more attributes…
In the first chapter of Deeper by Dane Ortlund, a book that I’m currently reading with two friends, seven aspects of Jesus are highlighted that we often fail to fully explore:
• He is the Ruler, the one with ultimate authority who holds everything in His hands—the cosmos, world history, and even your personal life.
• He is the Savior and the Friend. Both Friend and King, He invites us into His plans. He is the Friend of sinners, never repelled by our failures. At the very point of our deepest guilt and regret, His friendship surrounds us more securely and steadfastly than anywhere else.
• He is the Faithful One. Once He has drawn us to Himself, He will never look for a way out of the relationship. He will stand by us to the very end. No sin of ours can ever remove us from His arms.
• He is the Advocate. Jesus prays for us and defends us. He is more committed to your growth in Him than you are yourself.
• He is the Coming King. Jesus is coming back! It could be tomorrow! Isn’t that a motivation to live differently? How can things like our reputation or financial situation take up more space in our thoughts than the state of our soul?
• He is the Gentle One. In Jesus, infinite strength and infinite gentleness meet. Overwhelming majesty and unshakable calm come together: “I am gentle and humble in heart” (Matthew 11:29).
If we desire spiritual growth, we must go deeper in understanding who Jesus truly is. Let’s dive into the Bible and its life-changing truths in the coming weeks ♡
Let Jesus draw you into growth with the fullness of His infinite love.
