How Comparison Can Become Poison to Your Soul

It was already late in the evening when I found myself sitting in front of my laptop googling beauty tips: How can I put on my makeup in a way that conceals my trapezoidal face? What haircut would suit me best? Is there a secret to clear skin?

Well, I’m the girl who always changes her hair color, the one who sleeps with coconut oil in her hair (my hair really seems healthier these days, I’m not kidding!), and tries out cosmetic products when friends tell her about how effective they are.

It always takes place in the same way.

At first, I’m very excited and hopeful that the new beauty advice would finally help and make me feel more fulfilled this time. I try the new mascara, the contouring-stick, the zinc oxide cream and wait for the result. Weiterlesen

How Fairy Tales Destroy Our Love Stories

„Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,  does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.“ ~ 1.Corinthians 13:4 – 7

When I was sick in bed the other day, I started to google different topics beginning with Christians talking about how they found their happily ever after. I’m always excited to hear about other people’s love stories, and of course, I’m looking forward to my own. However, in the midst of listening to these romantic stories, God used an article by thefulltimegirl to remind me of something really important.

Praising Jesus in the Storm

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.”
~ 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

Jesus is with us in our suffering. He knows exactly how we feel and you know what? He suffers and cries with us! He comforts us and wipes away our tears (Hebrews 4:15, Revelation 21:4). Isn’t it beautiful to remember this especially in our trials?
However, He has the power to heal and to calm every storm of life. Do you feel desperate today? Are you wondering if there’s any hope for you? I want to encourage you: there is! Weiterlesen

A Note On Emotions

I have to admit: I’m a super emotional woman. On the one hand this fact can be seen as a wonderful gift from God. For example, there are even small things that make me very happy, and it isn’t a challenge for me to freak out, and to rejoice with my family and friends. On the other hand, as much as I experience the feeling of joy, I also know the feelings of sadness and fear very well.

The strong perception of emotions has been pretty tough for me in the past. There is a danger that I’m still learning how to deal with. Since I do perceive emotions in a very strong way, I sometimes tend to trust in my feelings more than I should. Because of this, there were certain times in my life when my heart started to believe in lies, rather than trusting in God’s Word. When I didn’t feel God as obvious as before, I doubted His love and grace towards me. Furthermore, I was in fear that I would lose my faith, and wouldn’t be a “true believer” after all. What if my faith wasn’t real or not deep enough?
As long as I had “good emotions”, I felt secure in God’s hands, but as soon as they went down for some reason, anxiety took hold of my heart again. Weiterlesen

God of Hope and Future

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” ~ Jeremiah 29:11

…another version says: “For I know the thoughts, that I think toward you…”

This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. I believe, many of you already read this scripture several times, and it always served as a great reminder of God’s faithfulness and love towards us. However, have you ever read the context of this promise? I have to admit: I haven’t until a few days ago. After reading the whole chapter, I really wanted to learn more about Jeremiah 29. I found two sermons by Christian Wegert and Joshua Harris. God used those messages, and spoke to my heart in a wonderful way. Two thoughts in particular encouraged me a lot:

1.) God’s Thoughts Toward Us (Christian Wegert)
God thinks about us. That’s amazing! He is the almighty God, and we’re only human. But still, He cares for us. He even thought about us since all eternity. He loves us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). And He thinks about us right now. God’s focus is on His people.

But why does He think about us? Because of Jesus.
He does not care for us because we’re such wonderful people. We’re definitely not. But God does not see our selfish, sinful heart anymore. If we are united with Jesus, He sees His righteous son in us. Because Jesus is our high priest, God’s grace is constantly on us (Hebrews 7:25).

God knows the thoughts He has toward us. He knows the plan even though we might not see it. We don’t have to understand every detail but we need to know that His focus is on us. His thoughts are full of love and hope.

2.) God’s Good Plan Starts Right Where We Are (Joshua Harris)
We sometimes think that God’s good plan is not happening until we get into a different situation. “If I just could be over there…” (e.g. graduation, wedding, job, beauty…)
However, His good plan with us is not on hold. It’s starting right now. We can worship God wherever we are. Everything we do has a purpose because we are serving the king. He already uses every detail of our lives in order to fulfill His good work in us.

„Living in Babylon“ by Joshua Harris (English)

God bless,

You say: “It’s impossible.” God says: “All things are possible.”

Have you ever prayed for something for a very long time and it seemed like nothing’s ever going to happen? On one hand you knew that God was able to do everything but on the other hand you felt stuck in your situation. You couldn’t even imagine how your life would look like if God would answer your prayers. A change in your circumstances seemed impossible to you. You were caught in chains.

Sometimes God doesn’t change our circumstances but our perspective. We learn to see things differently. Instead of exploring the threatening waves around us, we need to turn our eyes upon Jesus. God uses challenges in our lives to change our hearts. Weiterlesen

Take Me There – Do You Want to Go Home? Why?

My brother and I were on our way to our cousins’ birthday party the other night, when our car suddenly broke down. I know how to drive a car – at least I got my driver’s license – but I’m lost when it comes to the technical part. That’s why I have no idea what to do in a situation like this, which was obviously not very helpful. Thank God, my brother was with me (he has definitely more knowledge than me) and we had our phones to call for help.
Waiting in a parking lot, we had a lot of fun. My brother and I love to make music together and that’s what we did. We started to sing different songs, and I had a laughing fit which lasted for several minutes. That’s what happens when I’m in a situation where you actually don’t feel like laughing at all but you just have to because you’re kind of hysterically desperate.
Makes sense?  🙂

Anyway, just before the breakdown, my brother and I were listening to the song “Take Me There” by Trip Lee ft. Jimmy Needham and we thought about the lyrics. We never know what tomorrow holds and when it’s time for us to leave this life and to go home. Weiterlesen
